Hazard Identification
Reacts with water with low exothermal effect and potential dangerous squirts (blowouts). Does not have particular toxicological effects. Prolonged or repeated short time overexposure may be irritant by inhalation or by contact with wet skin and eyes.
First Aid Measures
Wet Skin: Wash thoroughly with soap and cold water repeatedly. Eyes: Do not rub. Flush immediately with large amounts of cold water for at least 10 minutes and consult a physician promptly. Ingestion: Rinse oral and nasal cavities repeatedly with plenty of cold water, drink as much cold water as possible, and consult a physician. Inhalation: Remove victim to fresh air; if breathing is difficult, call for a physician.
Fire-Fighting Measures
Flash Point: Not flammable (product will not burn). Auto-ignition: Not applicable. LEL: Not applicable. UEL: Not applicable. Unusual Fire and Explosion Hazards: The product is not a fire or explosion hazard.
Accidental Release Measures
Personnel must wear anti-dust mask, safety glasses, and rubber gloves. Contain spillage and scoop up dry product. Do not use dry sweeping or cleaning methods that generate airborne dust pollution. Wash out residuals with large quantities of cold water.
Handling and Storage
7.1 Handling: Handle product avoiding airborne dust pollution by using mask, safety glasses, and gloves. 7.2 Storage: Store product in a covered, clean, and dry area to avoid contact with moisture and water during storage. Shelf life is 2 years under dry constant temperature.
Exposure Controls / Personal Protection
Exposure Limits: TLV/TWA: 2 mg/m3; OSHA PEL: 5 mg/m3; MAK: 5 mg/m3. Respiratory Protection: Avoid dust breathing by using an approved anti-dust respirator/mask. Eye Protection: Avoid contact with eyes by using safety glasses or chemical splash goggles. Hand/Skin Protection: Avoid contact with wet skin by using safety rubber gloves and protective wear.
Physical and Chemical Properties

Flash Point: Not applicable. Explosion Property: Not applicable. Water Solubility at 20 deg C: About 1.4 g/L as calcium hydroxide. Specific Gravity: About 3.4 g/cm3. Chemical Stability: Stable in dry conditions.
Stability and Reactivity
Stable in dry condition. Highly hygroscopic. Hydrates in wet conditions to form calcium hydroxide. Reacts exothermically with water (can react with high or low exothermal effect depending on temperature/mix conditions). Soluble in glycerin and in aqueous sugar solutions.
Toxicological Information
The product does not have toxicological effects if properly handled. Irritant to mucous membranes, respiratory system, eyes, and skin on contact.
Ecological Information
Ecologically indifferent product. Ecotoxicological level is possible only after accidental spilling of a large quantity of the product into water due to alkaline pH shift.
Disposal Considerations
Neutralized waste product is hydrated lime, which is non-hazardous and acceptable in municipal sanitary landfills.
Transport Information
No particular transport hazard classification. The product does not contain toxic chemicals. UN Number: ONU No. 1910 (Calcium Oxide). Follow standard dry freight regulations.
Regulatory Information
Hazard Symbols: Xi (Irritant). Risk Phrases: R:41 (Risk of serious damage to eyes). Safety Phrases: S:26 (In case of contact with eyes, do not rub, flush eyes immediately with plenty of cold water and seek medical advice); S:39 (Wear eye/face protection).
